Philly-based Cubby is a multimedia artist renowned for his expertise in world-building. His sound and style are both distinctive and nostalgic, yet uniquely elusive, transforming the obscure into something familiar. Whether DJing, creating art, or producing, his ultimate aim is to evoke an emotional and physical response from his audience.

Who is Cubby?
I wish I knew lol I think mostly an artist, producer, dj and barista.

Where is Cubby from?
I am from the suburbs of south Jersey mainly but was born in Baltimore and currently live in Philly.

What is Cubby’s community?
Right now it’s whoever is around me! Unless you’re a weirdo! But honestly I have gotten to know a lot of people in my neighborhood through being a barista and between my bosses, coworkers and regulars, I feel truly supported and cared for, which is what community Is all about! I also have a band with my best friends who are just as if not more obsessed with music as I am which is awesome.

How does your work reflect who you are and where you're from?
I think my work has a direct correlation with how I cope with different emotions. I have learned to utilize periods of mania to make art which usually is a very emotional experience. I’m realizing these emotions create different projects a lot of the time which used to really bother me but instead of fighting that I’ve learned to embrace it as who I am! So my sound is pretty varied depending on the season I’m in mentally.

Location wise being basically from Philly, Jersey and Baltimore, I’d say club music has a massive influence on me and is at the core of what I produce. I feel almost obligated because of being here but it’s truly out of respect for the history and culture. It’s a blessing living in the  birthplace of one of my favorite genres and I hope one day to be considered a part of its growth and history.
