THEMMIX013: MUSEUM LEVEL
Meet Museum Level, a Philadelphia-based DJ and producer who draws inspiration from the legendary chemist Alexander Shulgin. Their music is filled with psychedelic mystery, wonder, and freedom - a true embodiment of creativity. Their talent has been recognized by big names in the industry, such as Tim Sweeney and Horse Meat Disco, after the release of their first album "New Age Cult" on Whiskey Pickle in 2020. The following year, they released "Myst Takes", featuring a remix from The Juan Maclean, on Days Of Being Wild. Museum Level is also the host of a monthly radio show called "Strange Cargo", in collaboration with their good friends Great Circles. Tune in to greatcircles.net every 4th Thursday from 6-8 pm ET to experience their unique sound.
Who is Museum Level?
To some I'm a bitch and to some I'm a lover. To some I'm a child and to some I'm a lover. I'm a sinner but yet also somehow a saint. And for this I do not feel ashamed. I can be your hell or your dream but nothing in between. And you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way.
Where is Museum Level from?
I've lived in Philadelphia, PA for the past 15 years but originally from Baltimore, MD.
What is Museum Level’s community?
My community stems from the connections I've made over the years mostly from music. I'm surrounded by some very inspiring, hard working people and that helps push me. Currently I've been involved in Great Circles here in Philly - they're a local record shop/label and streaming platform showcasing local artists. Justin and Alex really embody the community spirit and getting everyone involved.
How does your work reflect who you are and where you're from?
I think like all artists my work has changed over the years. It all comes down to what's influencing me at a current moment and how I can make that my own. Put my own spin on it. Lately I've been inspired by a lot of early 90's sounds. I'm not sure it's necessarily a reflection of where I'm from but certainly of the time period when I grew up.
